Character Name: Padma Patil

Age: 18

Brief Physical Description: She looks just like her sister, Parvati. Which is to say, unfairly pretty, long black hair, perfect medium-tone skin, brown eyes, the whole works. She’s more ‘traditional’ than her sister and wears eastern outfits more often, or eastern-inspired outfits if she’s not in full traditional garb. She carries herself with confidence and grace and usually has an open, curious expression.

Brief Personality Description: Padma is a strange duck, as she’s extremely intelligent and curious, but marries it with superiority complex. She thinks she is better than everyone else, Indians are better than any other country, her Indian class (that is to say, affluent and living in England) is better than other Indians, Purebloods are better than any other bloods, and cats are better than dogs. Her priorities go in about that order.

But even while setting herself above everyone else, she’s very curious about everyone and everything else around her. She wants to know everything. She is a Ravenclaw, after all. She’ll often get into situations she really shouldn’t be in, just because she ‘wanted to see what would happen,’ and she invariably sticks her foot in her mouth, usually by declaring that she knew everything all along/could have solved this easily/everyone else is an idiot. She is not exactly shy. Though, this is never done in a malicious way, she’s just stating a fact and often can’t figure out why people get mad at her.

She also appears to be fearless at times. Not to say she is fearless, she’ll shake in her boots as much as the next guy when faced with something, but she couldn’t care less about the idea of danger. Such as, walking around at night, because ‘what if’ Jack the Ripper comes back fro the dead and starts killing people? (Or, some more logical what if.) It simply never occurs to her (until too late) that a ‘what if’ is anything more than an intellectual question. Applies to both physical danger and social situations.

Affiliation: None, unless one wants to count her community.

Brief History of your character, especially including the events between Voldemort’s takeover and now: Padma was born to Dulal and Ananda Patil, along with her twin sister Parvati. She was always the calmer, more reflective of the two and spent a lot of time with her mother, who taught her about her heritage and how to love reading. Both of her parents were Ministry-supporting purebloods, but not particularly interested in or interesting to the government. So Padma lived a relatively normal life and didn’t question the system her parents taught her. By the time she was old enough to question things, the ‘rightness’ of the Ministry was as obvious to her as the fact that the sun goes around the Earth – duh. There were other, more pressing questions to be asked.

Once in Hogwarts, she was sorted into Ravenclaw and spent a rather uneventful time there, blissfully happy for the most part to be among other scholars like her. She still kept close to her sister, despite the fact that they were in separate classes and Padma couldn’t quite fathom Parvati’s growing distress. She loved her twin, so Parvati’s disappearance halfway through fifth year hit her hard. That damn Turpin kid didn’t help, especially once it became clear he was only dating her to replace Parvati.

Padma turned a little bitter after that, but relatively recovered. She didn’t ‘take it out on the world’ but her sister is a sore spot for her, as well as any hint that she’s not every bit better than Parvati, despite looking the same. (That other Patil has split ends something terribly, don’t you know. Mm-hm.) She graduated from Hogwarts and used a loan from her parents to open a rare books store on Diagon Alley. It’s new and hemorrhaging money, but Padma claims it’s just because she isn’t established yet. Her parents just shrug and mark it down as a tax write-off.
